Chip’s B2B Tip #103 - In Case Of Emergency

B2B Tip #103 - Be Prepared
.

Some of you may think this is off-topic. I only ask you to stay with me till the end. Wisdom and good advice take many shapes and forms ...

Since my car wreck on 2/5/05 (see B2B Tips blog post #50) - I look at life differently. Mostly, I miss Paula beyond description. If ever I had a soulmate, Paula was the one. Sometimes I wonder, "What's it all worth now?"

Plus - my Dad will be 76 next week (Mom died in 1992.) You know the rest of that story yet to be told.

My daughter and son-in-law both have cell phones. They just don't answer them all the time. My Dad has no cell phone. My point in running on about all that is to say, "Be prepared."

For what? The unexpected.

It's guaranteed to happen to you. You absolutely cannot escape it. You just don't know when.

Today I put an "In Case Of Emergency" card in my wallet. Why? I never know when something will happen to me and I cannot use my cell phone or otherwise reach anyone. I just know it will happen.

If something happened to you today, would anyone know how to reach the person(s) you would want called? Are you sure?

Yes - putting a little card in my wallet is pretty low-tech these days, but sometimes low-tech works best.

In addition, I strongly suggest that you be SURE you have a will. If not, in many states and areas the government will decide what happens to all your stuff. The people you care about could well be left out and have no way to be included.

What will happen to your business? Can someone write checks to take care of you if necessary? Who do you want running things till you get better - if you do.

What if you don't? Then what?

Morbid? No.

Smart? Yes.

Prudent? You bet.

Please do these two things for the well being of the people you care about and who care about you. Some day you'll be glad you did.

So will they.
