B2B Tip #101 - Home Based Business Opportunity - Fact or Fiction?
.
Go to Google and search for the keyword phrase 'home basedbusiness opportunity' and there are only ... 69,000,000 (yes -that's sixty-nine million) responses as of 7/4/05 when I am compiling this post.
(Compare this number above to the current population of the US.)
At Yahoo ... 32,000,000 ...
At MSN ... 3,091,631 ...
So let's now assume that a lot of folks think this home based business opportunity arena is a viable market.
From a cursory observation, many of the home based business opportunities are based on selling information on home based business opportunities - not the opportunities themselves.
Since each of these opportunities is apparently the biggest, best, easiest, and makes the most money (bar none) ... how are you supposed to reasonably evaluate the claims these companies and individuals spout off with such ease?
Good question ... I'm glad you asked.
First, you can dedicate yourself to a real business, or decide you'd prefer to try to sucker people out of their money by selling information on how to make money (ummm ... something that until now you haven't done yourself.)
Second, you now have an issue of personal and professional ethics to consider. Will you go out of the gates ready to rip off people, or will you concentrate your energy and money on something legitimate?
It's your call. It's your mirror. Look in it first.
Every business - regardless of where it's based - takes money and time to start and operate. NO exceptions.
Don't believe the baloney that promises otherwise.
So - where to start?
You can spend a bunch of money on publications and guides.
You can spend a bunch of money following the hype.
You can spend a bunch of money stacking junk in your garage and/or buying websites and bogus web traffic.
And you can waste years of your life, too ...
Or you can use your head.
Forget all the hype ...
Ignore the ridiculous sales letters you see ...
Don't buy anything until ...
You ask some people about it. People you know. People you trust. People you can believe.
Then - just for good measure - if they say they are making some 'real money' with this home based business opportunity - simply ask them to show you their actual records ...
Income and expenses ...
Assets and liabilities ...
You know - those things a 'real business' has.
Look at their copywriting. Look at their ads. Look at their web sites. Examine their bank statements. Grab that trusty magnifying glass you played with as a kid. (Or go buy a new one.)
But never - NEVER - just believe what people tell you when they are pitching you their 'killer deal.'
Always make them back up what they say with real proof.
Always.
(Even if they are your own relatives or 'best friends.')
So - the moral of the story is:
1. Too many home based business opportunities are based solely on selling other people information on home based business opportunities.
2. Too many people (and companies) will lie straight to your face to get you to sign up for their 'opportunity.'
3. Don't believe a single word of anyone's home based business opportunity pitch unless and until someone will show you real records that illustrate real results and have some real veracity.
Save your money, and more importantly - save your precious time - until someone can show you true facts, help you make the right decision for *you* - and can back it all up with real facts and real figures.
Otherwise, you're just a sucker for all the 'guides' - that are little more than a long cacophony of commercials - from the charlatans who sell info on stuff they can't even do themselves.
Your mirror and magnifying glass are your friends, and can save you a lot of aggravation and heartburn. Be sure to look in both of them.
Often.
