Many of the so-called big-time marketers would have you believe that it's all their esoteric "huge, massive, yeah-yeah-yeah" nonsense that will make the Big Difference in your marketing efforts and successes.

Baloney.

It's the little things that will make you or break you.

Quit wasting your hard-earned dollars on their products that most times won't help you a bit - regardless of the ridiculous, hyped-up, insane promises their sales letters make.

You need help - sure.

You need someone you can trust - yes, yes.

You need certain technology to help you do the important stuff in an efficient manner - of course.

But more than all that stuff - you need people. You need trusted B2B relationships. And you REALLY need to rely on the 3 Magic Words when people are involved in things with you.

These powerful B2B words open doors. Not using them closes other doors.

They'll help you get important people to help you.

(They'll get people to help you who otherwise wouldn't.)

They make people like you. They make people smile and feel warm and fuzzy.

You'll go further, faster, in your B2B efforts if you use them.

You'll be a Big B2B Business Success if you master them.

This B2B post is necessarly short because it's simple - yet profound ... and it's 'general' - yet very specific.

To reach your B2B or B2C target market - your copywriting has to 'speak their language' and be appropriate for their needs, wants, and desires. And it has to be timed right, too. And it has to be priced right.

And ... and ... and ...

Lots of people could figure this out by themselves if asked ... and some will even say, "I already know that."

But it's absolutely amazing that so few marketers practice this procedure. And there is nothing else that so profoundly affects conversion.

Period.

If I want to buy an icemaker, and all you talk about is golf clubs - or (Heaven forbid) yourself - how many sets of golf clubs will I buy that will make the ice I need?

Hint: ZERO (or very, very close to zero) ...

You might think I'm exaggerating ... but I'm not. Perhaps your own example is not so drastic ... but if you don't know what's swirling around in your reader's or listener's mind - you're shooting in the dark and praying you hit something.

Not an efficient message to market match, for sure.

I have a personal saying that typically creates a mental picture, but some people who misunderstand its purpose might find it to be bit crass.

It's not meant to have that response, but ...

Understand that today we are forced to deal with people who are so inundated with various forms and expressions in the media that it takes something different on our part to arrest them out of their stupor.

Also remember - "them" is also "you."

Instead of true uniqueness, many media consultants would have you undertake a plan of repetition (that also makes their fees higher) under the principle of 'branding.'

Branding is good. And if you can repeatedly write huge checks to establish an international brand like Nike, Starbucks, etc., branding is a part of an overall effective (expensive) strategy.

So - here's the saying ...

If you have people around you whom you can trust you are truly Blessed.

Many of us are surrounded by people who are looking for an "in" or a "toehold" to supplant us by doing something "noticeable" themselves. They are wolves in sheep's clothing.

Many of those people in the "Internet Guru" crowd would have you believe that you need to buy their "Earth-shattering, awesome, massive, one-of-a-kind whizzbang doodad product" ... or you can't possibly enjoy a single modicum of success by your pathetic little self.

I beg to differ ...

If you'll invest your precious time in cultivating friendships with people who prove themselves to be trustworthy over time, go slow, enjoy the journey, and just relax about this stuff ...

... AND invest your precious time in keeping up with new technology and trends, educating yourself in all things marketing and Internet Marketing - the rest of it will take care of itself over time.

I build relationships over time ... anywhere from weeks to years ... before a "JV-style" project becomes a reality.

Why?

There are too many people in a hurry chasing the dollars and ignoring the relationships.

Typically - lots of the so-called 'gurus' are all about greed and the love of money (although they'll tell you they aren't) - and if you judge them by their fruit (which is wise on your part) you'll see that what they say and what they do have a ...

... shall we say "curious" ... and opposite reality.

MORAL - choose your friends very carefully, treat them as the Blessing they are, and build real relationships over time ...

And remember what I said about trust above ... and to use a bit of Nike branding here ... The only difference in doing it and not doing it ... is DOING IT!

Other than traffic - you need content. Without content, you have nothing to show people who come to your site.

You also have nothing to put into your ezines or autoresponders to correspond with people who want to hear from you ...

You can write your own content (time consuming,) pay someone else to do it for you (expensive and risky,) or buy rights to use articles and other content for yourself (perhaps the right way.)

Either way - you can get the content you need.

... my first news release concerning our Church's (New Hope Church - Sevierville, TN) help for Katrina and Rita victims did very well.

What can we learn here?

Most importantly - there are different levels of interest about different news pieces. According to the statistics you see here, it's pretty obvious that more news outlets are interested in the Katrina and Rita victims than are interested in a local Church buying a local theater.

Makes sense - doesn't it? (It does to me.)

In addition - in one case we pigggy-backed current news (Hurriane Katrina and Rita) and in the other we created new news. Another lesson - it's easier and more "popular" to piggyback news than to create it, and piggybacking has the potential to generate more wisdespread interest.

OK - that's news for you on my case studies.

Ask yourself - can you go right now today and get that kind of coverage for your own activities?

If so - you can learn to do it better.

If not you need to get stated today.
