B2B Tip #52 - Love Is ...
.
Yes - this is still off topic for my blog (or maybe not) ... but that's OK.
A dear friend of mine who shall remain un-named is suffering though the upcoming predetermined loss of a dear pet with which he's enjoyed 24 years.
This is not all that different from my loss of Paula, with whom I shared almost three wonderful and incredible years of love and joy. Our 3rd anniversary would have been 3/24/05.
He sent me an email stating his situation, and his understanding of how I must feel about Paula, and below is the response I sent him. His email is below my response ... (below) ...
You decide ... here's my response - verbatim - ...
====================================
Ya know, Bro, we go through phases in life ...
From tiny and helpless ...
To young and footloose ...
To growing and fancy-free ...
To beginning to grasp our own existence ...
To becoming bullet-proof and invisible ...
To seeing we might make a difference here ...
To wondering if we really fit in ...
To seeing 'life' change with or without us ...
To wondering if we really understand it at all ...
To seeing our body not behave like it used to ...
To seeing others change, too ...
To having first experiences with death ... through losing important people (or pets) in our life ...
To being challenged to 'make a difference' with our "dash" ... our dash being that time between the day of our birth and the day of our death, such as 1954 - 2015 ...
To understanding - whether we're prepared or not - that we and everything around us could never in our wildest imaginations have be created by some nebulous 'big bang' ...
To grasping - in spite of our limited brains - the concept and fact that a Creator must have created everything in our lives that is good to and for us ...
To then seeing the dark side of this scenario in which 'something' is determined to defeat this plan and bring pain and death into our lives ...
To seeing pain and death for ourselves, first hand ...
To coming to the realization that we have to make a choice for ourselves to go through that pain and death, or have a way of escape ...
To understanding that the glue that holds it all together, the force that really binds us all - is love ... whether it's for a person or a pet ...
To realizing that perhaps we need to love more, and feel more love in return ... more often ... and with more fervor and determination ...
To understanding finally that we CAN make a difference, even if it's only by giving love to those around us, and understanding the true fulfillment of receiving love ...
And making someone's - anyone's - life better by the enrichment we give through love and caring ...
To wondering after they're gone if we did it well enough ... or could we have done it "better" ...
To learning to have grace for ourselves and not ask the questions we can't even answer ...
To trusting God to put us, and keep us, on His path - and help us fulfill His call on our life ...
To believing that we DID do a good job, not a bad job, at loving those around us ... and therefore DID use the most powerful force in the universe to touch another life, whether it's a person or a pet.
To being thankful for the time we had together, and refusing to torment ourselves for what might or might not have been ...
To focusing on what we'll now do to touch another life with the force of love ... and being very, very determined to on-purpose make the time to do that - even if it's just once a day ...
And making this a priority in our life right now.
Today.
No exceptions, and no excuses ...
To then adapting the mission to put someone else's needs above our own, in a lifestyle of new compassion and new vision ...
To understand that it's far more powerful and Blessed to give than it is to receive ...
Therefore making a real and measurable change in our own lives, and in the entire universe at large ...
Finally realizing that we DID make a difference.
And understanding that we DID achieve our calling ... just by touching another person (or pet) with love ...
The most powerful force in the universe.
I love you, buddy -
Chip

Hi Chip,
I have a dear pet that I'm going to put to sleep later this week. She came out of surgery well, but at her age, she doesn't have enough reserves to fall back on.
She's been a great companion and I'll miss her. (jpg attached)
Anyway, this has hit me harder than I thought.
Considering she's nearly 24, can't say she didn't live a full long life. Yet, this made me think of what you've had to go through, and all this has stirred my own fears of my mortality.
It will happen to all of us sooner or later.
That doesn't make it any easier, especially when it's sooner, right?
I think what we can do, in times like these, is be there for each other. No magic words necessary just knowing that someone cares and wants the best for you is more than enough.
So if I'm a bit flaky and unfocused (and down) you know why.

That's right, Bro.
Knowing that someone cares about you is the most powerful feeling in the universe, and has the power to change people and lives (and nations.)
